Mindfulness Yoga

Relax and focus with a gentle but powerful mix of yoga poses, breathing, and meditation.

Mindfulness Yoga

About Class

Each week, we’ll spend about the first half of class doing a series of yoga poses that will prepare you to sit still longer. I often focus on areas of the body that bother people the most, such as the neck, shoulders, back, and hips.

During the rest of class, we’ll use breathing and meditation techniques to help you develop better focus. Sometimes this means just sitting and noticing the breath. Other times, we are moving and breathing, chanting, or using visualizations to keep the mind focused and, hopefully, help you find a little clarity.

This yoga class is suitable for all levels, even beginners. Flexibility not required.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Yoga Class Waiver - PLEASE READ before joining class

By participating in Mindfulness Yoga, you agree to the following:

  • In any physical activity, risk of serious injury is possible. I am aware of these potential risks and understand that it is my responsibility to find a pace that suits me. During class, I will stop doing any activity that is painful or outside my comfort zone.
  • I have no medical condition that I am aware of that would prevent me from taking part in a class or workshop. I realize that it is my responsibility to consult with a doctor regarding my participation. I also understand that yoga is no substitute for a medical diagnosis and/or treatment.
  • I assume responsibility for any risk or injury I may sustain as a result of my participation.
How do I join the online classes?

Online classes are held via Zoom videoconferencing. Meeting details will be mailed out at the end of each month for the following month. Links to the recordings (for people with an active monthly or other class pass) will be sent separately.

If you are new to Zoom (or are using a new device), I recommend logging in five or ten minutes early to work out all the technical issues. If you still have trouble joining the meeting, email me at yoga@shawnradcliffe.com or call/text me at 519-379-3491 (Canadian). I will try to help you before class starts (although that is not always possible).

What will we do during class?

During the rest of class, we’ll use breathing and meditation techniques to help you develop better focus. Sometimes this means just sitting and noticing the breath. This yoga class is suitable for all levels, even beginners.

How can I practice yoga safely?

Most of the poses in this class are gentle. However, as with all physical activities, yoga carries some risk of injury. If you have an existing injury or other health concerns, check with your doctor before starting a yoga or other exercise program.

To keep yourself safe during class, listen to your body. If something hurts, stop doing it. You can skip any poses that don't feel right, and rest or repeat a previous pose that was easier for you.

Do I need yoga props at home?

If you own your own yoga mat or props, feel free to use them during class if they help you practice. Most classes, though, don't require any special props. You can also use other items as substitutes for yoga props, such as:

  • Yoga mat: Standing poses can be done on the floor. For sitting or lying down poses, you can use a blanket, towel, or pillow.
  • Bolster: If you usually sit on a bolster, try sitting on a thick pillow or even a chair or couch.
  • Yoga block: You can use a book, water bottle, or similar object.
  • Yoga strap: A scarf, long-sleeved shirt, or similar work well for poses that use a strap.
How can I get answers to other questions?

If you have other questions, email me at yoga@shawnradcliffe.com or call/text me at 519-379-3491 (Canadian number). I will get back to you as soon as possible.
